What’s Cooking In Modern Kitchen Design

  • Beautiful and functional kitchen from David Reid Homes Nelson, Tasman

A resurgence of food culture is the driving force behind modern kitchen design, integrating state-of-the-art appliances and user-friendly layouts to create beautiful spaces.

Fisher & Paykel Appliances industrial design head, Mark Elmore, says they’ve been observing people cooking, cleaning and eating to gain a deeper understanding of the ultimate kitchen design.

“What the research is telling us is that the kitchen is not a static space,” Mark says.

“During the week, the kitchen is a hive of activity. It’s about convenience, getting meals out quickly and easy cleaning, whereas on the weekend a busy household has more time to slow down and make a great meal.”

Fisher & Paykel’s range of kitchen appliances are deliberately designed for a cohesive look.

“Then the question is, ‘how do I bring my friends into the kitchen space?’. The social kitchen is central to all those patterns of use.”

As a result, the kitchen is becoming a warmer and more comfortable space, with easy access to all your favourite things, open shelving, softer combination of materials and state-of-the-art appliances to make life easy, he says.

“People lead busy lives they don’t want complicated. They don’t want to have to get out the manual every time they cook. Great design is easy to use.”

This kitchen built by David Reid Homes Wellington is beautiful in its simplicity.

David Reid Homes consider all of these elements when designing and building your dream kitchen. Current and future lifestyle factors are taken into consideration.

Will you be doing a lot of entertaining? Will your kids be preparing their own after-school snacks? Will the kitchen be a place for families to come together at meal times? Do you need lots of storage space for your kitchen gadgets? Because, at the end of the day, the best kitchen is the one that works for you.
