New David Reid Homes Show Home At Highsted Subdivision

  • Simplicity, practicality and timeless elegance all come to mind when you step inside David Reid Homes Canterbury’s new show home in Christchurch's exclusive Highsted subdivision.

The contemporary pavilion styled home covers 274 square metres, with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, open-plan living room and kitchen, cosy media room and centrally located outdoor area.

Based on David Reid Homes Pavilion 3 design, the house was reconfigured to suit the site and maximise the sunshine and expansive views of the conservation reserve on their back doorstep, says David Reid Homes Canterbury general manager Chris Solly.

“We wanted to make the most of the unique setting, so the home was designed and oriented with sunshine and views in mind, with a vaulted ceiling and generous floor to ceiling windows in the master bedroom and living area, which has created an amazing  feeling of light and space,” Chris says.

Christchurch design agency Comber and Comber conceptualised the exterior and interior design, creating a monochromatic aesthetic inside and out with black James Hardie Linea Oblique vertical weatherboard, coupled with a white painted monolithic plaster system on the outside, and stark white walls and black joinery within.

While simple, the classic U-shaped floorplan allows for separate living and sleeping wings, joined in the middle by a sheltered courtyard, creating the ultimate in indoor/outdoor flow.

The 140mm framing allowed for higher grade insulation throughout, while the built in gas fire and centrally ducted heat pump keeps the living areas and bedrooms toasty warm in winter and cool in summer.

Quality, sustainable hard wearing fittings and materials, such as the imported natural African limestone for the courtyard and front entrance were selected with practicality and durability in mind, says Chris.

“Everything from the shower fittings, door hinges, taps and door handles has a very high level of detail that makes for low-maintenance, easy living that’s built to last.”

Canterbury’s new show home at the exclusive Highsted subdivision is located at 231 Highsted Road, Highsted, Christchurch and open Friday - Sunday 12-4pm, or by appointment.
