David Reid Homes Kapiti Showhome

  • With an impressive Home-Star 7 rating, bespoke joinery, stylish exterior and attention to detail, David Reid Homes Kapiti’s new showhome nails their intent to create sustainable, energy-efficient homes that exude style and individuality.

Located at 1 Kanuka Close in the lifestyle development of Ferndale in Waikanae, the three-bedroom, pavilion-style home designed with AD Architecture, showcases what distinguishes the company’s design and builds, managing director Tim Sunderland says.

“It was originally designed specifically for this site but as we think its specifications and styling will prove very popular, it’s been made one of our standard plans.”

There’s nothing standard about this premium build’s construction, materials or design – bespoke joinery, 3.8-kilowatt photovoltaic roof panels and a stylish exterior that blends alternating widths of vertical Linea Oblique weatherboard with cedar.

The 212-square-metre dwelling continues David Reid Homes’ signature pavilion design, with the living areas, bedrooms and double garage grouped into separate wings.

Thoughtfully colour co-ordinated by Wendy Elers Colour & Design, the front door open into a wide, spacious entry foyer, with a tinted, honed concrete floor (complete with hydronic in-slab heating) and band-sawn cedar feature wall.

To the right are the engaging living/dining areas and kitchen and to the left the bedroom and garage wings.

The main bedroom has a comprehensive walk-in wardrobe and tiled ensuite, and the other bedrooms have a double-wardrobe with full-height sliding doors and a built-in desk.

All the bedrooms have sliding external doors, as do the separate lounge and large family/dining room.

The latter has a pitched ceiling, and the peninsula-style kitchen, which Sunderland says has been “expertly designed” by Kitchen Elements.

It features designer LED lighting, flush lacquered cabinetry, cleverly hidden appliances and oak joinery island with tactile Dekton benchtop.  Appliances include two Fisher & Paykel wall ovens, three multi-function gas hobs, and integrated refrigerator-freezer, rangehood and dishwasher.

“The idea was to make the kitchen seamless with the living areas,” Sunderland says. “It even includes a hidden butler’s pantry.”

The kitchen and family/dining room have concrete flooring while the adjoining lounge, like the bedrooms, is carpeted.

Other features include a large study, hideaway laundry, 140-millimetre framing and thermally broken glazing and foundation to maximise insulation, tiled bathrooms and multiple skylights.

“We’ve achieved a Homestar 7-rated property, and we are keen to hear how people feel about our latest showhome,” Sunderland says of today’s opening.

“We think it’s a very aspirational design that incorporated many of the elements people will want to build into their new homes.

“While our houses are cost-effective, they’re highly specified with the emphasis on bespoke design, insulation and customized plans.”

He encourages people wanting to build their own home to visit not only 1 Kanuka Close but also to consider the sustainable subdivision of Ferndale as a place to live.

“Everyone who takes the time to visit Ferndale is ‘wowed’ by what they see here – the setting is very special and superbly compliments the lifestyle designs of our homes.”
