Southland Adapts Inspiration to fit Landscape

Franchise director Andrew Wheeler says the team was determined to build a pavilion style home on the site, despite needing to change the design slightly to suit their site.

“The David Reid Homes Pavilion Style Range appears to be the most popular at the moment, it’s the most downloaded from the website, and also the style is heavily used in Jacks Point, Queenstown, so people see a lot of it,” Andrew says.

“Obviously, being in Southland, the more passive heat we can generate the better; so we tweaked the bedroom wing to run east to west to get as many bedrooms as possible facing the north sun.”

Three out of four bedrooms face the sun, along with the family room, living room, and kitchen.

On top of the naturally generated heat, the 2932 custom luxury home boasts many insulation upgrades, including 140mm thick timber framing to allow thicker wall insulation, thermally broken aluminium window frames, and a fully zone controlled diesel in-slab heating system.

Inside the home, finishing touches including cedar cathedral ceilings, polished concrete floors and Rockcote Marrakesh bathroom wall linings add an element of luxury; while LED strip lighting in the hallway, and a custom-made wagon wheel light in the living room add a point of difference.

“The Marrakesh wall linings in the bathroom are something different to your standard tiles, and everyone likes the polished concrete floors in the bathroom as well, as people reckon there will be less grout lines to clean,” Andrew says.
