David Reid Homes Golden Grand Slam

12/08/2016 By David Reid Homes

David Reid Homes has once again been ranked in the top echelon of New Zealand’s home designers and builders at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, picking up the elite Gold Reserve award in six of the nine homes entered.

The homes built by David Reid Homes teams around the country ranged from set-price, pre-designed homes, to architecturally designed custom-builds and are testament to our builders’ innovation and quality craftsmanship.

David Reid Homes Counties Manukau, Waikato, Wellington, Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough and Wanaka all attended the regional events hosted by Registered Master Builders during July and August, and came away with awards for homes they’ve designed and built in the past couple of years.

A holiday home built for Ben and Katie Smith built by David Reid Homes Wanaka and Central Otago, based on David Reid Home’s Fusion Range and our Smart Solutions philosophy picked up Gold and the Local Category Award in the $400,000-$500,000 price range.

David Reid Homes Wanaka director Chris Leith says the Smiths wanted an affordable, modern and stylish home where they could relax in the off-season.  Clever design and maximising the use of natural light created a feeling of space in the 219 sqm home, without blowing the budget.

“The vaulted ceiling in the living area creates an illusion of space and large windows catch lots of sun, which with the extra insulation results in some pretty big passive solar gains.”

The Wanaka team also picked up silver in the $1m-$2m category for the warm, comfortable family home built on a Central Otago working station.

David Reid Homes Waikato director Ben Green was thrilled to pick up a gold award for his sprawling pavilion styled show home, which was designed to showcase many different products and innovations as possible to inspire people dreaming of building their own home.

Features such as the black, coffered ceiling in the lounge, the luxurious bar in the media room and use of clear glass in both the ensuite and walk-in wardrobe were all strong discussion points and stretched people’s perception of design, Ben says.

“We like to do things differently, we’re always looking for new concepts and products to challenge the status quo in terms of design and innovation.”

David Reid Homes Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough picked up gold and the local category award for the cleverly designed compact, ultra-contemporary Kaiteriteri home, which was designed and built on a tricky location.

“It was a difficult build, with the design being restricted by the hill site, while honouring our client’s requests to retain the special sea views and factoring in passive solar gains,” says director Paul Richards.

A drive to create unique homes that suit their client’s lifestyle and personality is behind David Reid Homes Counties Manukau modus operandi.  Picking up two golds, a silver and the outdoor living lifestyle award across three homes, (click here, here, or here to see the homes) reinforced their reputation for building exceptional homes that stand out from the crowd, says director Brendon Hamill.

“We pride ourselves on doing something different for every single one of our clients, and work closely with our architectural partners, suppliers and sub-contractors to deliver homes that exceed their expectations.”

With an impressive Home-Star 7 rating, bespoke joinery, stylish exterior and attention to detail, David Reid Homes Kapiti’s new showhome won gold and the local category award in the Wellington region awards.

Director Tim Sunderland says the home nails their intent to create sustainable, energy-efficient homes that exude style and individuality.

“It was originally designed specifically for this site but as we think its design and styling will prove very popular, it’s been made one of our standard plans.”

The Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards is a highly regarded competition celebrating the building excellence in New Zealand. It awards the best homes and builders and the craftsmanship behind them.

The Registered Master Builders 2016 House of the Year National Gala awards evening will be held in November.
