Builders of Beautiful Unique Homes

  • A few weeks back, we discussed the difference between choosing an architect or design and build company to manage your home building project.

This week, we take a look at building companies.  There’s plenty of them around – but not all are created equal.

We talked to David Reid Homes Wellington Region managing director Tim Sunderland, who is celebrating 10 years in Kapiti this month, about what makes building a home with David Reid Homes so special.

“We’re different from other building companies in that you are not restricted to choosing one of our pre-designed plans.  A large percentage of our clients choose our design and build option which allows for their home to be reflective of the way they live, to fit neatly on the land they own and complement their budget,” Tim says.

“At David Reid Homes Wellington Region, we are design driven – we work very closely with architectural partners and our clients to create bespoke homes that are uniquely different.”

Since starting David Reid Homes Kapiti in 2005, house design has become much more comprehensive, driven by people being far more educated and aware of the options, Tim says.

“There’s a lot more information out there now – TV programmes, magazines and social media sites all dedicated to house design and building which provides a huge source of inspiration for people who want something unique that suits their lifestyles.”

This design-led approach is evidence of the team’s technical skill, passion for their craft and the attention to detail in all aspects of the house build.

Having an architecturally designed home doesn’t have to cost the earth, Tim says.

“With David Reid Homes you get the best of both worlds.”

“Your beautiful, functional, robust dream home at a set-price, without the headache of worrying about your budget blowing out mid-way through the project – we take care of it all.”

If you’re considering building your own home, Tim recommends approaching your local David Reid Homes builder first, to talk about what you’re looking for and get some ideas from the experts.

“We have a lot of expertise in-house, with our own project managers, building consultants and quantity surveyors, as well as working with various architectural design partners.”

“That’s how we can offer fully managed contracts from the site visit and initial concept design, through to code of compliance – we offer the whole package”.
