Build Your Dream Home with David Reid Homes Dunedin

  • Dunedin may be best known for the world's steepest street and the University of Otago, but once the frost lifts, a vibrant and historic region emerges. The region attracts many not only to visit but also relocate from across the country for the lifestyle it offers.

Dunedin arts and culture is enticing, with a number of museums and galleries including the award winning Otago Museum, the spectacular exhibitions on show at the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum, impressive art at the Dunedin Art Exhibition, or connect back with nature at the authentic Dunedin Chinese Gardens.

If you’re more a do-er than a looker, venture out to the Otago Peninsula for some amazing views of the Otago Harbour and dive into some of the country's best surf beaches. While you’re out that way, take a tour through the historical Larnach Castle and perhaps visit the observatory at the Royal Albatross Centre. With so much spectacular coastline, it’s only fair we give a shout out to the famous Tunnel Beach and Saint Clair, as well as the extraordinary pyramids at Okai Reserve.

For your weekends, spend your Saturday morning at the Winner of the Outstanding Food Producer 'Peoples Choice' award in 2020, the Otago Farmers Market for over 75 local produce and artisan stalls. Follow this up with an exciting night out at a number of excellent restaurants or home-y English-style pubs, or #supportlocal in the home of world-renowned breweries such as Speights or Emersons.

We at David Reid Homes have been building in the greater Dunedin region since 2003, with over 100 custom designed architectural homes to the David Reid Homes Dunedin franchise’s name. The franchise covers a broad area, from Dunedin out to Balclutha and Palmerston, and west to Middlemarch and Naseby.

Richard Copland and Nigel O’Leary took over the franchise in 2010, combining their skills to provide an ideal solution for the provision of architecturally designed, custom-built homes under the David Reid Homes brand for this spectacular region.

Richard originally hails from North East England, and made the move to Dunedin with his family in 2007, so definitely considers himself a local now. His experience specialises in project management and systems, and he has a number of major home alterations and renovation projects under his belt. Richard’s passion for the industry and David Reid Homes comes from his own architecturally designed custom home which was built in Dunedin.

Furthermore, Nigel brings over 25 years of experience to the David Reid Homes Dunedin franchise, from a broad range of ventures across the country. Nigel is also experienced in project management across the board from smaller homes right through to luxury architecturally designed homes.

Richard and Nigel believe that open and transparent communication characterises how they deal with their clients, and place a high value on the continuing strength in the relationship between them and their service professionals.

The wide geographical area covered by David Reid Homes Dunedin means that the team are experts across a wide range of terrains and projects, and are equipped to make and (almost) any custom dream home wish become reality.

In more recent years, Richard and Nigel have noticed an increase in demand for Pavilion style houses in the greater Dunedin region. The Pavilion style is popular where there is desire for privacy and space is enhanced by the separate living environments. With two or more wings connected by a series of hallways, the Pavilion style is perfect for the modern entertainer who values an intimate connection to the landscape.

One of the David Reid Homes Dunedin’s favourite builds is this stunning pavilion home located in Mosgiel, Dunedin. It’s nestled into the hills and the clever pavilion layout of this custom design home allows views of the surrounds from every room. An entertainers dream, with fantastic indoor outdoor flow from the open plan kitchen/dining/living area out to the sun-drenched decking and heated portico. High raking ceilings intensify the space and light, contrasting with the rich timber joinery and wood floors of this picture-perfect home.

Building a new custom home design in greater Dunedin, you’re building in not only a fantastic area but also with experts who know the nuances of the region and have years of experience behind them to help you achieve the dream home in Dunedin you’ve always wanted. We’ve got the tools, skills and experience – from architects through to interior designers, so we can create a home that is uniquely yours.
