Less is More in Bathroom Design Trends

  • Bathroom designs have seen a shake up for 2018, bringing with it a range of sleek and simple products and designs.

Ross Jones, business development manager for Athena Bathrooms and Clearlite Bathrooms, says their Clearlite product range is undergoing its biggest update in 15 years.

“The trend we are seeing is clean, modern looking bathrooms with big tiles, less grout lines  and clean detailing. It’s about keeping it really simple and really minimal; less is more,” Ross says.

The product range for both Athena and Clearlite has adjusted to fit with this ideal, introducing baths and vanities with smooth edges, shower door sets up to 2000mm tall with optional upmarket easy to clean sliding door sets.

With wall tiles now available in larger sizes and heated towel warmers with hidden fixing this is also ensuring the seamless look is achieved.

“People are getting taller, apparently, and they’re wanting taller showers, so to this end Clearlite shower door sets have gone from 1820mm high, up to 1920mm in the Sierra and Cezanne ranges and to 2000mm high in the Millenium range.

“In addition to this all Athena doors sets will come standard at 2000mm tall,” Ross says.

Two different shades of blue, a duck egg and a deep blue, are predicted to be popular for the coming year, as well as a continuation of neutral and earthy colour palette.

“People walk in and see big pops of colour in  showroom display areas, but the reality is that’s not what they are putting in their own home … we’re still going to see the earthy and grey tones,” Ross says.

In keeping with simplistic bathroom designs, many homeowners are opting for mirrored cabinets recessed into the wall. “It’s all about the utilisation of space … people really want storage,” Ross says.

Both Athena and Clearlite shower enclosure ranges now include sliding shower doors - Clearlite with Cezanne and Athena with Motio (Motio has soft close door operation).

Both ranges have evolved to help maximise functionality, especially in smaller bathrooms where space is limited.

“They’re definitely a step up in style and function from the old traditional sliding doors previously available and much easier to clean and maintain,” Ross says.
