This contemporary holiday residence is located within the historic precinct of Clyde, Central Otago.

Three distinct gable forms are carefully grouped toward the Southern boundary, creating a single-level building arrangement that allows connection and openness to the North facing aspect whilst also providing areas of sheltered exterior Living space.

The Interior Living areas are open and connected to the Exterior Living and cooking facilities for flexible seasonal living. The planning also provides the possibility to close some internal areas in the cold seasons to allow easy heating.  All Living and Sleeping areas are connected to the outside so the occupants can experience a feeling of ‘borrowed space’.

Upon arrival the visitor becomes aware of the familiar vernacular building materials, textures and forms. The considered selection and detailing of appropriate materials has resulted in this residence sitting sympathetically amongst its historical surroundings.

In contrast with the exterior appearance of the residence there has been a contemporary approach to the design and finish of the interior elements and facilities.

This is a substantial home that compliments its environment, whilst it successfully enables the family to enjoy a modern level of living.
