Silver Award in the $450-$650 Category
David Reid Homes was given the task of creating an exclusive “retirement” home.
This individually designed single level home was inspired by David Reid Homes Concept plan Classical 11 and has been created to maximise the benefits of location, with particular emphasis on views, sun and client lifestyle.
The elevated site has commanding views over Taradale, the Peak and Kidnappers in the distance. The outlook and sun are captured through large areas of glass which are double glazed and lightly tinted. The living areas are positioned for optimum gain of winter warmth with patio areas designed for entertainment and quality indoor outdoor flow. The covered terrace is well located to escape the peak heat and / or occasional adverse weather.
Overheight stud throughout, generous hallways and internal courtyard all combine to give a very spacious, bright & airy feel to the home. Square stopped ceilings and moulded curved corners confirm the overall quality of the home.
Storage everywhere underlined by the separate walk in cupboard (big enough that it could have been an office) and attic stair in garage. The oversized double garage allows plenty of room for work bench, toys and equipment.
Solar heated hot water, superior Daikin ducted air conditioning and highly efficient gas fire to the lounge ensures ambient living throughout the year at low cost. Electric undertile heating in the bathrooms keeps out the chill and moisture in winter. Wood laminate flooring in the main living area and 100% wool carpet over superior foam underlay enhance the class of this home.
The exterior incorporates cedar timber entry and garage doors, cedar exposed trusses to gable areas, stutex stone pillars and plaster finish; the contrasting colours all in keeping with the surrounding landscape which is Hawkes Bay.

The inspiration for this home came from David Reid Homes concept library Classical 5 plan.
This home features upstairs which is dedicated entirely to a master bedroom making it perfect for parents who value privacy & luxury. A spacious bedroom, complimented by suitably large ensuite and walk in wardrobe. French doors to covered balcony area accentuates the very good proportions of the upstairs area.
Open plan family dining kitchen underlines the quality of this David Reid home, with pantry, stone bench top and bi-fold doors to the secluded patio. Formal lounge and study are accessed from this area.
The home features Pink Bats insulation including mid floor and silencer noise bats to both downstairs bedrooms. This insulation coupled with solar hot water, gas and air conditioning provides a very comfortable home in all seasons, plus achieves excellent energy efficiencies now and into the future.
Plaster finish to the exterior is well suited to this contemporary home, with highlights being cedar garage and entry doors and tiled roofing.
